Emerging Adult Program

Young adults are often faced with stress over decisions about what to do in life. They may be asking themselves personal questions, moving from home, finding a job, entering the workforce or going to college. Embarking on the next step can result in changes in friendships and life roles. Other challenges may include difficulties with social media, texting, cyberbullying and peer pressure.

The onset of a behavioral issue can complicate the transition into adulthood. If you are struggling emotionally, excessive levels of anxiety, depression and/or substance use can make things worse.

Signs of concern may include:

  • Depression
  • Excessive anxiety or irritability
  • Low tolerance for stress
  • Panic attacks
  • Effects from trauma
  • Low self-esteem
  • Self-harming behaviors
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Drug or alcohol abuse
  • Struggling with adjusting to adulthood

The Emerging Adult Program at Valley Hospital is specifically designed for young adults. This is a pivotal point in one’s life where independence begins but not everyone is equipped with all the necessary life skills. This can lead to feelings of low self-esteem that can result in depression and anxiety. This outpatient group can help equip participants with the necessary coping skills by addressing mental health and wellness, regulating emotions, healthy relationships and dealing with grief and loss. This group is designed to help participants gain critical life skills to help them find success.
