“Understanding You” Outpatient Program

Valley Hospital’s “Understanding You” Outpatient Program offers both a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults ages 18 and older who are designated as having Serious Mental Illness (SMI) status and a co-occurring substance use disorder. This designation helps determine individuals who have a mental, emotional or behavioral disorder that interferes with day-to-day functioning without support.

Our therapy groups promote social inclusion and independence with group involvement where peers get to share their experiences and help each other feel that they are not alone; that other people are going through similar situations. The groups are run by a master’s level clinician who gives patients the tools they need to assist with coping skills, helping maintain stabilization, providing structure, minimizing symptoms and improving day-to-day functioning and quality of life.
